BRITISH SETTLEMENT VISA (SPOUSE)

  • The minimum age for those coming to the UK for settlement as a spouse / fiancé(e) is 18 years old.

    To qualify for admission as a spouse, you must show that:

  • The sponsor is present and settled in the United Kingdom, or is to be admitted for settlement at the same time as you (the applicant) arrives in the UK; The parties to the marriage have met;

  • The marriage is subsisting and each of the parties intend to live permanently with the other as his/her spouse;

  • There will be adequate accommodation for the parties (that they own or occupy exclusively) and any dependents, without recourse to public funds;

  • The parties will be able to maintain themselves and any dependents adequately without recourse to public funds

  • Entry Clearance when issued is usually valid for 2 years and good for multiple entry.

All applications should be submitted and paid for online. You will then be directed to make an appointment online at one of the Application Support Centres in your area in order to submit your biometric data. Once you have submitted your biometric data you can send in your passport, printed and signed application form, your stamped biometric appointment form, the settlement Priority Service receipt with the bar code and the supporting documents to Global VIP Services so that we can submit your visa application to the British Consulate General, Los Angeles for processing.

Please prepare and submit the following items:
  1. Passport - Your current original signed passport, which must be valid for a minimum of 6 months with at least two blank visa pages.

  2. Passport-Style Photographs - One color passport size photograph 2”x2” on a white background with a full front view of face. (Do not staple or glue the photograph to the application).

  3. Complete Visa Application - Download the Application Form, online including the payment of the consulate visa fee. Print and sign the application and print the Confirmation receipt.
  4. Settlement Priority Service Notice - With effect from June 1st, 2010 for Global VIP Services to submit your application for priority processsing, it is necessary that you pay the settlement priority service processing fee of $300 plus tax to the British Consulate through the WorldBridge Website. and

    -Select United States on the pull down menu

    -Click on "Purchase Products and Services"

    -Select your designated UK border agency from the pull down menu - see page 1 of your UK online application form for your desiganted UK agency

    -Click on "Settlement Priority Service"

    -Fill in the form and pay the relevant fee

    -The system will then generate a receipt with a bar code

    -Print the receipt with the bar code and include it with your applicaiton package so that the British Consulate accepts your application form GLOBAL VIP SERVICES for rush processing.

  5. Your Biometric receipt - stamped by the biometric service center

  6. Your Passport - singed with ample validity and at least 1-2 blank visa pages.

  7. Marriage Certificate - the original civil marriage certificate issued by the registrar or the relevant authorities

  8. Termination of Previous Marriage –
    1. divorce papers showing the date the divorce became final (original or notarized copy);
    2. death certificate (original or notarized copy).

  9. Letter of Support – A letter from your spouse stating that she/he supports your application to settle with her/him in the UK, and that it is her/his intention that you live permanently together as each other’s spouse.

  10. Evidence of your Immigration Status in the USA (not necessary for US citizens)and permission to re-enter the USA after your trip. Please submit original documents. Examples include:
    -Permanent Resident Card
    -Valid US visa (e.g. H1B, F1)
    - Valid I-94 card

  11. Evidence of your Spouse/Fiancé(e) UK immigration status - Your spouse's original passport, a certified copy of the biographical page of his/her passport, or his/her origianl/certified copy of birth certificate.

  12. Supporting Documents:
    1. Evidence of your accommodation in the UK:
      • Lease or tenancy agreement for private rented property; or
      • Tenancy agreement with the local authority; or
      • Mortgage papers for privately owned property
      • Title Deeds
      • If you plan to stay temporarily with family or friends, they should write a letter giving their consent to this arrangement and the evidence that they have suitable accommodation for you and your dependants.

    2. Financial Support : You need to show that you and your spouse can support yourselves and your dependants without recourse to public funds. You must include one or more of the following documents:

      • Original signed letter from your spouse’s employer in the UK stating the position in the company, length of service, annual salary and the position is permanent;
      • Your spouse's original pay checks for the most recent 3 months;
      • Offers of employment for either/both parties including details of salary;
      • Origianl recent bank statements for most recent 3-6 months and savings account showing sufficient means of support while employment is sought in the UK or for indefinite support if no employment is planned;
      • Educational or vocational certificates and C.V. to demonstrate qualification for potential employment in the area in which you plan to live;
      • Enquiries made regarding employment in the UK;
      • Plans for self-employment in the UK;
      • A monthly budget forecast, to provide details of monthly income, expediture and expected surplus.

    3. Applicant Letter of Intent – You should write a letter giving the purpose of your trip, departure and arrival dates, arrangement for accommodation, transport and other expenses you have made, your address, phone number. Address this letter to the British Consulate and sing it.
    4. Evidence of Relationship - Photographs of you and your spouse/partner (a few), letters you have exchanged, log of emails, phone calls, Skype and affidavit of friends and family regarding their knowledge of your relationship.

  13. Payment: You may pay all the fees with one Cashier's check/ money order payable to “GLOBAL VIP SERVICES”.
    1. Our Service Fee is $100- the British Consulate's processing time is usually 48 hours for this type of visa.
