Information and advice on British / UK visas and the steps you must take to obtain them.

British Tier 2 Work Visa

You can apply for a Tier 2 (General) Work visa if:

  • you have been offered a skilled job in the UK;
  • You need to have a certificate of sponsorship from a licensed sponsor – before you can apply to come to the UK to work;
  • The work you do in the UK must relate to the work of your sponsor organisation;
  • you need to meet the eligibility requirement;
  • Prior to filling in your application check out the Visa Guidance.
  • you’re from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. PASSPORT Signed passport valid at least for 6 months validity beyond your stay in the UK and, at least one blank visa page.
  2. Photographs – 2 color photographs, 2”x 2”, on a white background, full face, no shadows, fully developed, and on a photographic paper (Do not staple or glue the photograph to the application). Write your name clearly on the back of the photos.
  3. Supporting Documents Guide – Read this guide so that you have all the necessary supporting documents ready before applying.
  4. UK VISA APPLICATION Complete the UK online Visa Application form, accurately and fully. Print, sign and date the application. During the completion of the application you will be asked to make a biometric appointment online at the Application Support Center near you. Remember to print your Biometric appointment notice at the same time as you print out your application.
  5. Biometric Receipt – Once you have attended and completed your biometric appointment, you will be handed your biometric receipt by the Application Support Center. Your application and supporting documents must be submitted to the British Consulate within 2 weeks of the receipt date on your biometrics receipt, otherwise it will not be accepted.
  6. PRIORITY PROCESSING FEE – You need to you pay the expedite processing fee of $250 to the British Consulate.  Enter United States for country of residence, select your visa type from the drop down menu and select New York in Visa Application Center drop down menu. Then fill in accurately your application number and all other details. You must print the payment receipt with the bar code at the completion of this process and submit it with your application and other supporting documents.
  7. Certificate of Sponsorship – This is not a certificate or document, your sponsor will give you your certificate of sponsorship reference number as well as some other information to you, so that you can apply for the Tier 2 Work visa, e.g. how much you will be paid. You need to add your certificate of sponsorship reference number to your application form – you can only use it once.
  8. Evidence of fund  – You should submit bank statements (with your name and address) showing you have had at least £900 in savings (£945 from 1 July) continuously over the last 90 days, or your sponsor’s certification that they can support and accommodate you for the first month.
  9. Knowledge of English – You may need to prove your knowledge of the English language when you apply. You can prove your knowledge of English by either:
    • passing an approved English language test with at least CEFR level B1 in reading, writing, speaking and listening
    • having an academic qualification that was taught in English and is recognized by UK NARIC as being equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree.
    • You may be able to meet the English language requirement in other ways or need a higher level of English in some circumstances. Check the full visa guidance for detailed information. 
    • You won’t need to prove your knowledge of English if you’re a national of an English speaking country.
  10. Evidence of Qualification – You may need to provide evidence of qualifications, copies of degrees held, resume. Review UK guide to see if you are to provide documentary evidence of your qualification/work experience.
  11. TUBERCULOSIS TEST RESULTS  – If you’re from a country where you have to take the test.
  12. Travel Document – One copy of your round trip flight reservation issued by a travel agency/airline. Non-refundable tickets/reservations should not be purchased until receive your passport and the UK visa .
  13. RESIDENCY STATUS – Non-US Citizens submit your original green card, or a notarized copy of your valid green card (front and back), or US visa Original document. Original I-20 and I-94 must be submitted, if applicable.
  14. Payment – Pay the total fee with one cashier’s check, or a money order, payable to Global VIP Services
    • Service Fee:
      • Regular 15 business days plus shipping time is $400.
      • Rush 8 business days plus shipping time is $600.
    • FedEx Fee 2 way shipping is $100 for packages less than 0.50 lb in weight.
  15. Processing Period – The processing time for regular service is 15 business days plus shipping time. For rush service it is 8 business days plus shipping time.
  16. Order Form – Complete and sign Global VIP Services Order Form, and send it to us together with all the above mentioned items via FedEx to our FedEx address given on the Order From.

SPECIAL NOTES:

  • You may also need to provide additional documents, if required by the British Consulate.
  • You can come to the UK with a Tier 2 (General) visa for a maximum of 5 years and 14 days, or the time given on your certificate of sponsorship plus 1 month, whichever is shorter;
  • You can apply for a visa up to 3 months before your date of travel to the UK;
  • Your stay must start no more than 14 days before the start date on your certificate of sponsorship.
  • You can apply to extend this visa for up to another 5 years, as long as your total stay is not more than 6 years.
  • Certified translation of any document that is not in English must be submitted.
  • Dependents: Please note that a separate application form, fee and set of supporting documents should be submitted for every individual dependent.
